Kitesurfing has become really popular during the last decade. It’s a spectacular mix of flying and surfing and requires a lot of skills. Head to the village of Kalpitiya and enjoy the amazing Hotel and Kiteschool in the West Coast of the country. Experience Lagoon, Flatwater and Waves, or dive into the azure waters of Sri Lanka where you can even meet dolphins. The Indian Ocean is perfect for wave riding and Kalpitiya Lagoon is perfect for freestyle and beginner rides. Head to the Puttalam Lagoon for some camping trips and Downwind.

The kitesurfing season starts roughly around May and lasts till the beginning of autumn. The wind during this time is 18-20 knots so you’ll enjoy some top-notch kitesurfing. Head to the south of Sri Lanka and enjoy the waters of Ahangama-Kabalana.

Mirissa Bay is yet another place that draws kite surfers from all over the globe. Beginners should take lessons with IKO certified instructors to avoid dangerous situations. Two Kappalady lagoons have smaller winds and relatively calm waters, which are perfect for kite surfers of all levels. Wave riding in the Laccadive Sea is a real treat for all thrill-seekers. You can also enjoy some seafood hunting out in the open.
